“We believe in great food for the greater good.”
SIMEK’S, the Minnesotan purveyor of premium frozen meatballs and lasagna, recently hosted Pass The Plate Chicago at Kinzie’s On The Rocks (370 N Desplaines). An evening designed to introduce SIMEK’S to the Chicagoland area, the company seized the opportunity to donate 5,000 meals to Chicago food banks.
Three of Chicago’s top social media food influencers were invited to submit their best meatball recipes to vie for the coveted Golden Plate Award, voted on by guests of SIMEK’S and Jewel-Osco. Erica Eckman (@EverythingErica) used SIMEK’S Original Meatballs to make her Sticky Mandarin Orange Meatballs. Erin Byrne (@312Food) used SIMEK’S Original Meatballs to make Greek Meatball Bites. Kit Graham (@TheKittchen) used SIMEK’S Italian-Style Meatballs for her Italian Meatballs & Farfalle. After sampling the offerings, guests voted on their favorite recipe and SIMEK’S donated meals to the winner’s local food bank. Further, for every event photo tagged with #PassThePlateChicago, SIMEK’S donated a meal to the local Feeding America Chicago Food Bank. Erica Eckman (@EverythingErica)’s Sticky Mandarin Orange Meatballs was declared the winner and SIMEK’S donated $2500 to the Northern Illinois Food Bank on her behalf.
In addition to Original and Italian-Style Meatballs, SIMEK’S offers Turkey Meatballs, as well as Vegetable Lasagna, Italian Sausage Lasagna and Meat & Sauce Lasagna. Founded in 1972, SIMEK’S is a certified Woman-Owned Business, helmed since 2010 by President and Owner Lindsey Hickey. Offering flavorful, satisfying, preservative-free, premium products, in 2017 SIMEK’S transitioned to One For One Meal Donation for every product sold, every day.
“Giving back is part of our DNA and we are proud to help you share in making an impact which is why every time you enjoy a meal with SIMEK’S, you are also sharing mealtime with someone in need in your community.”
