Six Flags Great America Celebrates 25 Years of Fright Fest

Six Flags Great America in Gurnee is celebrating 25 years of Fright Fest and it begins today! I had the extreme pleasure of visiting the park and getting a sneak peek of all the fearful festivities this year.  I even had the opportunity to get zombiefied and got to ride Goliath with some scary characters, including Nox, and my photos are below.

I am most excited for the return of Nox, who serves as the overlord of Fright Fest.  During his second year reigning over Fright Fest, he will raise his minions to wreak terror on all guests when hell breaks loose at 6 pm every night.

This season, Six Flags Fright Fest is the most terrifying yet that features six haunted mazes, six fright-filled shows during their six weekend-long production.

Dameon Nelson, Director of Operations for Six Flags Great America says “Fright Fest is reborn again in 2016 for our biggest haunt yet with no mercy after 6:00 p.m., [with] two new haunted houses and two spectacular new shows.  All of this comes with your favorite characters including the lumberjacks, clowns, werewolves and the most complete Halloween event anywhere in the world!”

The two new haunted houses are called Big Top Terror and Infestation.  Other returning haunted attractions are the Gates of Hell, Apocalypse, Manslaughter Manor: Sadie’s Revenge and Massacre Medical Center.  All of these requre an extra fee to enter.

Two brand new entertaining options this year are The Uprising Parade: Nightly Call of the Dead and Dead Man’s Party – Unleashed.  Also, my favorite Fright Fest musical, Love At First Fright, is back as well.  It is an award-winning family musical where you join Jack and Kate on their dare to spend the night in the cemetery.  I always make it a point to catch this show every season.  The characters are comical, the tunes are a treat and they change it up every year with little satirical jokes and one liners to match the current news.  Returning this year is hypnotist, Susan Rosen, also LightMosFEAR and The Witching Hour.

As you wander through Fright Fest, you’ll be sure to see many of their 250+ zombies and monsters who wander the midways and reside in the haunted attractions.  These characters are carefully crafted by a team of 30 master makeup artists who use an astounding 2,500 ounces of makeup and fake blood.

Fright Fest runs September 24 through October 30.  Hours are Fridays 5 pm – 11 pm, Saturdays 11 am – midnight, Sundays 11 am – 10 pm and they will be open on Columbus Day (October 10, 2016) 11 am – 7 pm and Halloween (October 31, 2016) 5 pm – 11 pm.  Please note that Fright Fest remains family-friendly until 6 pm.

Also, 2017 Season Passes are now on sale and provide unlimited visit for the rest of the 2016 season (including Fright Fest) and all of the 2017 season.  For a limited time, with the purchase of a Season Pass four-pack, guests will receive a free upgrade to a Gold Season Pass, which includes free admission and free season parking to any Six Flags theme park with every pass.  Season Passes must be purchased and processed at the park by November 6, 2016.
