“Summer of Sweet Independence” at Toni Patisserie and Café from July 4 – 14

From 4th of July through July 14 (Bastille Day) Toni Patisserie and Café is throwing a 10-day party. Stop in and celebrate the July birthdays of our two great  nations – The US & France – with some unique sweet, savory and beverage delights made especially for this revolutionary occasion at Toni’s.

I was invited to sample some of the delectable holiday treats over the weekend, and you definitely don’t  want to miss out on this one-time special.  These savory and sweet treats, all created with a “Red, White, et Bleu” theme, are only available July 4 – 14.

A Few of Toni’s Red, White et Bleu Sweets:

  • Eat Sweets of Die Macaroons – Red Top / Bleu Bottoms with Vanilla Cream Centers
  • Land of the Sweet Panna Cotta – Blueberry & Cherry Gelée Striped with Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta.
  • Vive la Tarte! – Raspberry & Blueberry Clafoutis Tart Dusted with Powdered Sugar

A Few of Toni’s Red, White et Bleu Savories:

  • Heirloom Tomato Salad with French Bleu Cheese, Arugula and Balsamic Glaze
  • Toasted French Brie, Dried Michigan Cherry and Honey Baguette
  • Watermelon Gazpacho with Pickled Blueberries and Jicama

They were all superb, but for me the standouts were the Toasted French Brie baguette, the Watermelon Gazpacho, and the Land of the Sweet Panna Cotta.  The baguette, in particular, will make you want to come back again and again over the ten days.  Either stop in multiple times and try them all yourself, or bring some friends and share.  You may even want to grab a few of these, buy a bottle of wine from Toni’s boutique wine shop, and head on over to Millennium Park for one of the many free concerts.

The special holiday cocktail concoted to accompany these items is (appropriately) called “The Sparkler.”  It’s a vodka/champagne cocktail that is light, refreshing, and a perfect pairing with all of the rich offerings.

In addition to the food and beverage specials, Toni Patisserie is also rolling out the “Summer of Sweet Independence Photo Contest.”  Just ask yourself the question, “What does independence mean to me?”  Then, between July 1 through July 14, all you have to do to win a complete brunch for two is post a photo depicting “What Does Independence Means to You?” at the “Toni Patisserie and Café” Facebook page. From the posted entries, a winner will be announced and contacted via Facebook message on Monday, July 15.
