The Local Tourist Welcomes TechWeek with 5Degrees and DealsGoRound

This Friday marks the start of the first Tech Week, a massive celebration of new technology in the city that’s become known as “Silicon Prairie”. The conference itself runs from July 22 through the 25th at the Merchandise Mart and boasts 150 speakers across 60 panels and 10 tracks. Innovators like Jason Fried of 37Signals, Mike Evans and Matt Maloney of GrubHub, Penelope Trunk of Brazen Careerist and Craig Newmark, founder of Craigslist, will be speaking, and the impressive list goes on and on. There’s also an Expo that highlights the newest tech products from both Fortune 100 companies and startups.

One of those startups is 5Degrees. With all of the new communication platforms in recent years, like Twitter and Facebook and now Google Plus, it can be difficult to keep up with your contacts. “5Degrees brings you closer to your connections by giving you the ability to manage all of your relationships from one organized smart application.” said founder Jeb Ory. “It combines your address books, social media contacts and your little black book into one, and allows you to track, interact and stay in touch with all of your different social circles.”

We’re honored to be the media sponsor for their launch party this Friday, which is also the official after-party of TechWeek. With our cohosts DealsGoRound we’ll be celebrating at Sidebar, just a couple of blocks from the conference, and the first 200 to register receive a free drink. We’ll also have snacks and giveaways, including tickets to our very own AlphaBeer and Chef’s Table events.

When asked why they wanted to host the official after party, Ory said “The Chicago tech scene is finally starting to get the attention it deserves. We have grown with the tech scene over the last two years, and we view the party we are throwing as a great way for Chicago’s flourishing startup community to network and kickoff TechWeek.”

Tickets are going fast, so please register for this free event ASAP, and I’ll see you on Friday!
