Waterleaf Food and Wine Festival

Tommy Hensel and Mary Kay Hardcastle sampling Italian wineOn Saturday, September 14 a lucky group of guests were able to experience the second annual Waterleaf Food and Wine Festival in Glen Ellyn, presented by the Daily Herald.  Last year’s event was hugely successful, and Waterleaf built on that success to create an even more spectacular event this time around. 


In advance of the event, Jean Pierre Leroux, General Manager of Waterleaf Restaurant noted, “Attendees will discover unique wines from around the world they would probably not otherwise have the chance to sample.  Waterleaf is all about delicious food and great wine, and our festival is the perfect showcase to share our passion with our guests.”

View from Waterleaf restaurantI was invited to attend the festival with a friend, so the two of us drove out to the College of DuPage on a picture perfect early fall day.   In the patio and gardens areas adjacent to Waterleaf restaurant, the festival featured wines specifically selected by the small, family-owned distributor Heritage Wine Company.  With a focus on smaller wineries from around the world, guests were able to experience unusual labels they may not find in area stores or restaurants. 

We were also treated to a wide range of food stations presented by Waterleaf Executive Chef Nadia Tilkian. College of DuPage Culinary students also provided pastries and specialty pizzas to round out the menu. Live jazz was provided by the Shawn Maxwell Trio and Steve Ramsdell. 

Desserts at Waterleaf Food and Wine FestivalLocated on the College of DuPage campus in Glen Ellyn, Wateleaf features a contemporary approach to fine dining led by Executive Chef Nadia Tilkian. Known for its use of fresh, locally-grown, seasonal ingredients, Waterleaf recently received a three-star review from Crain’s Chicago Business.

In addition, Waterleaf is also one of just two first-year restaurants in DuPage County to receive a 2012 Wine Spectator Award of Excellence. This award, given annually to restaurants in the U.S. and 65 countries worldwide, recognizes Waterleaf’s 200-plus wine selections, the quality of producers included on the list, and the restaurant’s thematic matching of wines to its menu in both price and style.
