When Veuve Clicquot Comes to Town

“I drink Champagne when I’m happy and when I’m sad. Sometimes I drink it when I’m alone. When I have company I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I’m not hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise, I never touch it — unless I’m thirsty.” ~ Lily Bollinger

Clicquot on Tour

Last weekend our fair city was painted Pantone color 137c, Veuve Clicquot signature yellow. The reason? #ClicquotJourney, a whirlwind champagne tour making its way across the country. The tour’s Chicago stint lasted four days and was quite epic. While I couldn’t attend every event, I tried my best to get my fill of Veuve. What else is a champagne loving girl to do amid all of the Veuve Clicquot yellow?

Bubbles and food pairings and games and photo booths, oh my! Veuve sure does know how to bring the party! Much fun was had by all. I missed Thursday festivities at Joy District. So, my #ClicquotJourney started on Friday at the gorgeous Waldorf Astoria, where, rain be damned, dressed to the nines crowd sipped half-priced flutes of Veuve outside. Next stop: City Winery on Riverwalk, for more rain soaked Veuve and Clicquot boat sightings.

But the most fun happened Saturday. This was the day of unusual pairings and destinations. First up: Federales, a brand new alfresco tacos & tequila bar. Tacos and champagne? Just crazy enough to work if you ask me. We tried brisket tacos and pork belly al pastor, both divine, both great with our chilled Veuve. But onward, Veuve lovers, to Saint Lou’s Assembly and its stellar patio, for bubbles, corndogs and human size Jenga! The good folks at Saint Lou’s get my Veuve hat tip for most original pairing: superb duck and foie gras corndog with champagne mustard. Yum. And their Veuve specials were stellar to boot.

Sunday wrapped up the Veuve party in Gold Coast. Maple & Ash, Hugo’s, Tavern on Rush, Luxbar, Gibson’s, Carmine’s… all painted Clicquot signature yellow, serving up chilled flutes of liquid sunshine. #ClicquotJourney must now move on. Its mission: to share champagne life with anyone and everyone. Let’s face it, folks, in today’s tumultuous world everyone could use a little liquid happiness. Now, bring on the champagne, darlings. Let’s celebrate every day!
