When You Wish Upon a Meteor: Perseid Meteor Shower Star Party with Adler Planetarium

Every summer the night skies are filled with shooting stars – a.k.a. meteors. The Perseid Meteor Shower is a sight to behold, but it can be difficult to see in the middle of the city. That’s why Adler Planetarium is inviting you to join them in Cantigny Park to view this annual event.

Located in Wheaton, Cantigny Park is far enough from Chicago’s light pollution to allow stargazers to see the show up above. There will be telescopes and volunteers from the Naperville Astronomy Association and the Chicago Astronomical Society to help you see and understand. Bring a blanket and a picnic basket, but leave the wine at home as no alcohol is allowed.

The Perseid Meteor Shower Star Party starts at 6pm on August 12 and includes live music, a scavenger hunt for kids, science activities, and presentations by an Adler astronomer. Tickets are $9 for members and $12 for non-members in advance and $15 day of, and the event happens rain or shine.
