Since my writing for ChicagoNow is geared towards tourists and new residents, I figured an early post should be about the origination of our most popular nickname. Locals tend to use that as a test: if someone says it’s the wind, we say “well, actually” and go on to tell a tale of politicians and world fairs and jealous New Yorkers. I proceeded to do some quick research to make sure I had the details correct, and to my surprise, I found a different tale.
